Singer Fantasia Barrino’s family frantically thrust her into a shower to revive her after she attempted suicide by swallowing pills. In a panicked 911 call, the singer’s manager told the operator that they plunged the “”American Idol”" star into running water to wake her up after she swallowed a bottle of aspirin in her North Carolina home. The operator urged Dickens to tell Barrino’s family to take the 26-year-old singer out of the shower until help arrived. Paramedics later found Barrino slumped in a closet, reported local television station, WBTV. Barrino’s father, Joseph, said Wednesday that his daughter was “”doing fine,”" and was set to be released from the hospital soon. The stunning suicide attempt Monday came in the wake of reports that Barrino had an affair with a married man and broke up his marriage. Sordid details of the affair — including allegations that the pair had filmed several sex tapes — emerged when Paula Cook filed for child custody last week. Barrino won “”American Idol”" in 2004. Her first single, “”I Believe”" when to number and she has been nominated for seven Grammy awards.
Former Alaska senator Ted Stevens died in a plane crash Monday afternoon. Stevens with his friends, including the former head of NASA Sean O’Keefe, were on their way to a fishing camp when the plane hit the side of a mountain outside Dillingham, Alaska, about 325 miles southwest of Anchorage. The crash killed 86-year-old Stevens along with four others, and left its four survivors stranded overnight until they were rescued Tuesday morning. Alaska State Troopers said the survivors including O’Keefe and his teenaged son are now at Providence Hospital in Anchorage with “varying degrees of injuries.” The National Transporation Safety Board is investigating the crash to determine the cause, but weather has been named a possibility. Known affectionately as Uncle Ted by many in his state, Stevens was a decorated World War II veteran and the longest serving GOP senator in US history. He is survived by his wife Catherine and his six children.

It might be an Irish firm with a couple of African finds on its hands, but there’s nothing vapoury about Tullow Oil. It has gushed up the FTSE100 and set investors aflame but it doesn’t look like capping off any time soon.
Results of the forthcoming referendum will have a big bearing on levels of investments in the country. Investment analysts predict that the passing of a new constitution will spur investments as compared to its defeat, which they say may bring about uncertainty leading to slowed investments. As evidenced in the post election events of 2007, investors shy away from investing in a country with political tensions. Henry Githaiga has that report.
