Most of the Jewish geniuses are German Jews; it is much more likely that their German heritage played a larger role in their genius than their Jewishness, especially since they almost all became humanists living at a distance from their Jewish culture.
Also, I’m not sure I’d count genital mutilation as an advancement in culture.

Well, I should agree with u about the bad behavior among chinese university students. That’s really ugly, but not as common as u said. And they are the same students getting most PhD degrees in the US. The education system turns most chinese students only care about score, but once they get into another system, e.g. US universities, or real econimic society, they will change. Anyway, thx for sharing your experience teaching in China.

The money and time would have been better spent learning how to recognize and take advantage of opportunity. That’s how to attain wealth. Also to learn how to farm and self-sustain. That is the ultimate wealth.

Universities and academia in general are slave indoctrination centers and do not reflect future leaders, just future workers. The wealthiest people don’t know how to do trig, they know how to hire people to do that. They also don’t need to know how to invent. They hire people for that or steal ideas. I’m not disagreeing with your assessment of Chinese, but they certainly are shrewd businessmen just like the Jews.
Felicity–Trust me, I live and work in China. I have taught at a major US university and a major one in China. I doubt you have that perspective. Every expat I’ve met here in 4 years, whether from Europe or the USA, cannot believe the rampant corruption, lack of independing thinking skills, and laziness that exists among the under-35 generation. Maybe the IPHONE was invented in America, but it is produced in China .. and producing is the only way out of it. I have my own company .. my product was INVENTED in Europe, it will be PRODUCED in Europe and will be SOLD all over the world. That is how I will be sure that my business environment, cultural environment, private environment will benefit from it. I`m not for China I`m laughing at America that will go under because of its ignorance, arrogance and incompetence!
Your students sound like Americans. Chinese have better work ethic. They don’t need to innovate. They let others do the hard part then copy the ideas and get rich off of it by using cheap labor and undercutting their competition. Sounds smart to me.

I teach in your best university in China and these students (a) cheat and plagiarize constantly (b) cannot come up with an original opinion on anything (c) are lazy (d) will never be able to innovate, which is, incidentally, China’s second biggest problem after its lack of good managers. Why are these managers so weak? Because they are these very same students a few years later on the job! IPHONE was INVENTED in America, and that is the big difference.
He’s wrong about Chinese being so smart. I’ve lived here for several years, and I’ve never seen such a lack of independent, creative, or critical thinking skills in my life–and I’ve taught at China’s top business school.

America pumps out iphones, google, the best tractors, best bulldozers, best movies, and even the best porn movies!!! The only things ive seen that china has pumped out are terribly made products that are sold at walmart and target. Have you seen a great chinese movie lately or has the academy awards produced some amazing chinese actor?? I dont think so. Rogers commodity thesis is totally right but his china thesis is a flop!
